Welcome to the Peg and Awl Substack!

Family photograph in Creek with a Chicken. Chester County Pennsylvania
This is an old photograph of us from when we moved here to The Five Acre Wood circa 2019. Both Søren and Silas are taller than us now. Hilda is gone and Pearl, our found hound, has joined our family!

We are a family business that celebrated fifteen years in January of 2025. We have been making things all of our lives and when Walter and I met we decided to merge our interests into one magical unknown entity we called Peg and Awl. Our business began, like many things in our lives, without a plan — just the desire to make useful objects and take them on life’s adventures and add to them our own stories and marks and scribbles. We love reusing old things and using sustainable materials wherever possible including vegetable tanned leather, FSC Certified wood, and recycled silver and gold for our jewelry. We make very little waste and hand make everything in our barn in West Chester, Pennsylvania, where we also have a storefront open most weekdays from 10am-5pm!
